Full STEAM Ahead

Recently, I was elected to the Board of Directors of STEM for Her, a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation that promotes education to empower girls to change the world through STEM-related careers.  In this role, I had the privilege to observe girls aged 11-17 in action at YWCA National Capital Area's Summer STEAM Academy, a program supported by STEM for Her. Watching these engaged girls code and fly drones through obstacle courses as well as brainstorm ideas for the utility of drones was uplifting and inspiring.

To create such a strong program, the YWCA National Capital Area strategically partnered with companies to bring their program to life and change the lives of these girls.  Identifying and selecting the right partners enable organizations to leverage the expertise of other organizations and produce programs and offerings that are greater than the sum of the parts.  Effective strategic partnerships are often the key to an organization’s success.
